Mental Health Agency - treated with 'dignity and respect'? NO!!?

Does anyone know where to turn when you don't have insurance and the psychiatrist you were told to go to by your therapist for 'med management' behaves completely unethically, bordering on, if not, being verbally abusive? My brother, an attorney in another state, said to deal with it with my therapist, but there's got to be some place else I can turn to. I'm scared to go back to that facility, if that's even still an option, and I need meds. I came out of that session wanting to drive my car into the river...what's wrong with that picture?? Any suggestions would be really helpful.
Answer:
The Psychiatrist works for the agency. There is usually more than one person in the agency that can do med. management.

First go to the Care Coordinator of the (therapist case manager) then if no help is received to your satisfaction, Contact the Clinical Director of the Facility. Tell them the situation. If you don't get to see a different psych. then go to the Executive Director of the Mental Health Facility.

There is always a chain of command in whatever mental health organization your going to. Just keep going up the chain until you get what you need.

Each of those persons should have an open door policy and enable you to make an appointment with each as needed.

Burnout in psychiatrists can cause them to be unprofessional and their superiors need to know. They WORK for the organization.

An added note: If you do not think you can advocate on your own behalf, sign a release stating the organization can speak to your brother and have him call and do it for you!
well you need to report him, so that you get your revenge and he doesnt do it to someone else.

i think you should contact the american psychiatrist asssociation
I agree with your brother. Go back and tell your therapist what happened and that you need a place to get your meds. The therapist needs this information to give you a different referral to get your meds. that`s the most important issue . regarding the abusive behavior by the psychiatrist i am not surprised they are all a little off key. Write a letter to both facilities and make your complaint known or have your brother write it on his bussiness letter head paper it might get their attention if a lawyer writes a letter or complaint. Good luck. What you have in front of you is a big ship to sink,
I just got rid of a psychiatrist that was keeping me over medicated. I was lucky to find a good nurse practitioner (they can prescribe in MA anyway) so you may want to look into that. Did anyone else see his verbal abuse? No, you shouldn't have been treated like that insurance or not. If you do go to a lawyer tell him how the treatment caused suicidal ideation i.e. reckless driving. Definitely, tell your therapist and consult the resources below i.e. patients bill of rights and phone no. to APA. I am so sorry this happened to you but I'm not surprised I've been treated badly on welfare insurance. Good Luck and hope you can get med assistance elsewhere.
every where you go there is a complaint process. They should have a handbook telling you of your rights and how to file a complaint. You can call the agency to get the name and address of quality control, but always put your complaint in writing. Telling someone is fine, but when it's in writing the organization has to follow through because you've started a paper trail and it's trackable (phone calls are not and e-mail doesn't have your signature)
