Lexapro or Effexor weight gain?

Which one is less likely to cause weight gain with long-term use?
Answer:
I didn't gain weight on either medication, but I did lose weight on Effexor. It made me manic - I couldn't sleep, had no interest in food, and was constantly fidgeting. It was not a pleasant experience.
Lexapro, but it makes you more crazy
lexapro. i feel ive lost weight on effexor. lexapro just fucked me up.
get off that crap- go to church
effexor is less likely to cause weight gain.i've taken it with no side effects.
Lexapro and Effexor both have the same way of working on the neurotransmitters. They both work on the CNS.
Effexor is an older medication. Effexor XR and Lexapro are both time released.
Plain Effexor is now generic, so it should be considerably cheaper than Effexor XR or Lexapro.
Effexor XR comes in capsule form and Lexapro is a small pill. Depending on if you have trouble swallowing medication. Lexapro should be easier to swallow.
If you have insurance, it may not cover one of the medications. Most insurances will cover one but not the other.
Both medications should work the same as far as weight gain on a long term basis.
Both medications should be taken for at least one year.
Again, they both have the same properties and work the same on the CNS.
Since I don't have insurance, I would choose the least expensive of the two.
PS: On either medication you may have side effects for 2 to 3 weeks. Most people experience "weird" dreams. You may have trouble falling asleep. These symptoms will go away in about 2 weeks.
Most depression causes people to complain of lack of energy. Both medications will help that feeling. But if you notice that you become "nervous" or "jittery" while taking either medication, you should contact your doctor immediately.
Either could cause weight gain. It all depends on how your body specifically reacts to the medication. Everyone's experience is different when it comes to psychiatric meds. Personally, I lost weight on Effexor because I completely lost my appetite.
